Become an MLC Help Session Tutor
Join the MLC Team to become a Help Session tutor for math and stat courses! If you are interested in becoming a Help Session tutor for some of the courses we support, first make sure you fulfill the necessary requirements below.Courses with MLC Help Session Tutoring:

Qualifications for MLC Help Session tutors are:
- 3.0 cumulative GPR at time of employment.
- Earned a grade of A or B in the class for which you are applying to be a Help Session tutor and have taken that class at Texas A&M University.
- Earned a grade of A or B for any prerequisites for the class for which you are applying to be a Help Session tutor.
- Be enrolled at Texas A&M University, all majors are encouraged to apply.
- Be available to work at least 6 hours per week.
- Work study recipients welcome but not required.
While in this position, each MLC Help Session tutor will:
- Articulate mathematical thoughts clearly and effectively in written form.
- Think critically and adequately assess other student's work.
- Communicate effectively in a professional setting.
- Consider different points of view.
- Demonstrate intellectual curiosity.
- Plan, organize, and prioritize work.
- Leadership opportunities are available!
Application Steps:
- Initial Application Review: Only those students who meet the qualifications and have coursework complete will be invited to continue in the application process.
- Online or Face to Face Interview: If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted via email. To prepare for the interview, a set of problems that correspond to the math course for which you are applying to be an MLC Help Session tutor will be provided for you to solve before your interview. The interview panel will ask you to present a few problems from the set. You are encouraged to bring any notes that will assist your explanations. The panel will assess your presentation and organization skills, ability to communicate mathematics, your preparation to "teach" the problems and mathematical accuracy.
- Offer of Employment: You will be notified and receive a formal job offer via email. At this step, you will also be asked to provide your availability.

Become an MLC Peer Facilitator
The Math Learning Center is seeking enthusiastic individuals with a strong math background and a passion for helping others to join us as Peer Facilitators for our upcoming Hands-on, Grades Up (HOGU) sessions in Fall 2025. These sessions feature active-learning activities tailored to specific courses. Similar to any specialized training, the key to success here is learning through practice, problem-solving, and understanding the core concepts and their applications.
As an MLC Peer Facilitator, you will support an instructor during HOGU sessions by addressing student questions and creating a welcoming environment for students attending these sessions. You'll receive the session materials in advance to prepare, and weekly training sessions will be conducted. This role offers a rewarding experience, fits well with a busy schedule, and enhances your resume. Join the MLC Team as a Peer Facilitator for math courses!

- Work study recipients welcome but not required.
While in this position, each MLC Peer Facilitator will:
- Articulate mathematical thoughts clearly and effectively.
- Encourage active learning to develop essential problem-solving skills for students attending the HOGU sessions.
- Guide students through problems, making the learning process dynamic and supportive.
- Consider different points of view and provide immediate feedback on problem-solving attempts while clarifying any misunderstandings.
- Engage with other Aggies and create a welcoming and supportive environment for those attending the HOGU sessions.
- Work collaboratively with staff and other Peer Facilitators to foster a deeper understanding of the material for students attending the HOGU sessions.
- Communicate effectively in a professional setting.
- Identify areas needing further review and offer guidance to students for course success.
